MATT EVANS RIDER SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Mandie O'Brien

The characteristics that make Mandie exceptional are: self discipline, strong spirituality and faith. Mandie is kind and thoughtful, always putting others above herself. There is a wholesomeness and innocence about Mandie that make her a precious spirit on earth. Mandie loves horses and Mandie promotes independent equestrian activities through her church and with everyone she meets. Mandie is very proud of her participation in MARE activities. Mandie raised over $300.00 participating in the MARE Ride-A-Thons. Mandie always dresses appropriately for her riding lessons, she sets a positive example for others in not only her appointments but also her willingness to learn and keep trying even if the exercise seems difficult. Mandie always tries to do her very best. Mandie refers to herself as a "horse freak.

Mandie's long term goals are to someday marry and have children. Mandie's equestrian goals are to learn to sit and maintain the canter, performing all shool figures. She hopes to show in local dressage competitions in  raining and possibly 1st level. Mandie would also like to do more trail riding out of the confines of the riding arena. Lastly after she masters the canter she would also like to learn how to gallop. We have recommended that she try the extended canter instead. Mandie helps groom and tack her horse on most occasions. She is responsible for adjusting her stirrups, checking the girth. Mandie leads her horse well and is capable of reversing the tacking process and giving her horse a shower after a hot ride. Mandie has participated in the CALNET Horse Show twice. She has participated in our center's show many times. Mandie is a solid walk, trot rider, progressing to canter rapidly.

Horses change lives. They give our young people confidence and self-esteem.

They provide peace and tranquility to troubled souls. They give us hope.
